About the Author
Mercer Mayer – writer and illustrator for Little Critter First Readers, as well as Little Critter Spectrum began writing and illustrating children’s books in 1966 and since that time, he has published over 300 titles. Open almost any of the award-winning author/illustrator’s books, and out may pop dragons, cuddly monsters, wonderful creatures, and endearing critters.
“Most of my books are about things that happened to me when I was a little kid,” says Mercer. “Now that I’m a big kid, I write about things that happen now, especially with my own children. They always help remind me of what it was like.”
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mercer Mayer spent his childhood hunting lizards and snakes in the swamps near his home. During his teenage years, he attended the Honolulu Academy of Arts. He later received additional training at the Art Students League in New York City. Upon completion of his studies, he set out with pen and ink to write and illustrate a collection of children’s book, reflecting many of the adventures he experienced as a child.

Excellent resource.
The Spectrum Math Books are quality math books that focus on the very basics. They have extensive, step by step practice in the very basics of math.
For example, in the Kindergarten level book they will have lessons and practice on graphing, counting, basic adding and so on. They will not have lessons and practice in making different types of graphs or subtraction which is not grade level appropriate.
Spectrum math books provide a sound and strong foundation in the building blocks of math. If your child is in need of extra practice in a specific skill area or in math at a specific grade level this is a great book to put up. If you are homeschooling and you want your child to have a good grasp of the basics before going further, this is a great book to pick up.

Difficulty doesn't progress logically

I purchased this book for my 5 year-old and at first, it seemed very appropriate. Addition, subtraction. Things that any 5-year-old should be learning. But then, it switched gears to simple comparisons (which item is larger? Which Item is higher? etc.). It was a total waste of time after the first half of the book.
