Stuff your Stocking with the Christmas Potato!

Charlie is ready for Christmas Vacation and in his opinion, vacation should not include chores! A chance encounter with a different kind of Christmas elf helps him put the season into perspective!

The author did an excellent job of combining both Jesus and Santa into this little Christmas story. She knows what makes boys tick and the illustration of Charlie cleaning the bathtub made me laugh out loud!

This little paperback is the perfect size for a stocking or a gift tie on.

A Delightful Christmas Story

Charlie is looking forward to Christmas vacation and he has big plans. The chores his mom asks him to do are not exactly what he had in mind. However, as Charlie does what is asked of him he begins to realize what is important to him: spending time with family and helping to do his share around the house.

I can't wait to read this story to my children this Christmas season. Paula Schlegel is a talented storyteller and I love the way she incorporates Jesus and Santa in the same story...it doesn't have to be either/or. Finally a story that includes our Christmas traditions along with Jesus' birthday.

Best Yin Yoga Book Yet!

Bernie Clark manages to yet again capture the basics as well as the evolving nature of Yin Yoga. The blend of the philosophical and practical aspects of the practice is artful and complete. The many Yin Yoga flows are great for home practice or for use as a teaching aid. Yin for shoulders and in general, upper body is introduced. I questioned this at first having learned that Yin Yoga is meant to target mainly the lower body, the lower three chakras , but who's to say upper body can't be addressed from a Yin perspective? I have already introduced this in my classes and it has been very well received as have the wall Yin Yoga suggestions in the book.
If you are looking for a "complete guide" to Yin yoga, this is the one!

Even better than 'Yinsights'

This is THE definitive volume on Yin Yoga, recommended by both Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers.

It replaces Bernie Clark's earlier 'Yinsights' and is a huge improvement in that it has far more detail on how to go into the Yin postures.

I ordered three copies a few weeks ago and another is about to be ordered for our Yoga Teachers Association library.

Paul Grilley mentioned that he used Bernie Clark's earlier 'Yinsights' as a teacher training manual. I can't help but believe that 'The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga' will now replace 'Yinsights.'

My only small quibble is that the photographs could be better. But that does not stop this being a five-star book.

almost too comprehensive

I have a creaky back and knees essentially bone on bone. This book explains a type of yoga aimed at keeping joints looser. Thus far, in several weeks, my pain level has reduced to the point that the surgeon no longer felt hyalauronic acid injections necessary. My goal is to put off knee replacement as lomg as possible so I won't need to do it twice like my father.

There is a great deal of informarion about how different cultures would interpret the reasons this works. For me that is extraneous as I am pragmatic--more interested in whether it works than why and especially not three different cultural versions of medical treatment. But I and you can easily jump past what we don't want to the poses themselves. Someone else might find those sections helpful. The book is quite well written in all areas and well illustrated, which is extremely important for asanas.
