Jean-Marc Kespi, M.D. is honorary president of the French Acupuncture Society. He has been involved in the study, practice, and teaching of acupuncture for 50 years. He is a prolific author in his native French and maintains a busy practice in Paris.

Well Done!

Dr. Kespi's work is very inspiring. This book is very practical and clinically useful. The detailed theory and methodology is deeply rooted in classical chinese medicine. His explanation of chinese symbolism, disease process, and lifestyle is academically refreshing. I would recommend this book to any clinician wanting to deepen their understanding of Acupuncture.

This is one of the better books on Chinese Medicine that I own! It's "French style" acupuncture, which has a tendency to use a smaller number of carefully selected points for a more precise effect...sometimes even just a single point. Very inspiring to read the many case studies interspersed throughout the text. The author is clearly skilled in his point selection, from many years of experience. There are types of point categories in this book that I haven't seen anywhere else...definitely check it out!

Extremely bizarre acupuncture text

I wanted to go deeper in my understanding of TCM and I've been recently looking for books that go beyond the Chinese Modern Standard teachings. This book seemed like a good choice. But it was not.
First, the book have some factual errors. As we know, TCM theory sometimes differs from one author to other based in wich tradition he comes from; there are different ways to explain things but this is not the same as a factual error, wich is based on facts -not a personal point of view. For example, p. 44 says "the Upper Burner receives the food that is ingested". Every TCM student knows that is the Stomach the organ who receives the food, and then the Spleen sends the Zhong Qi (wich contains the essence of the food) to the Upper Burner. If the reader is still learning Zang Fu phisiology, imagine how confused this could make he or she.
Second, the theory underlying the text is frecuently esoteric, vague and opaque. Clinical cases are the 80% of the book and they become tedious because they are not recorded in medical standards. Almost every single case have a bizarre background (pacients who dreamed or painted points names before treatment, etc.) and the point selection the author offers is frecuently laughable at best. Seriously, it is like whatever you puncture could work. This give a shamanistic feeling that I'm not sure how could benefit the respect TCM has recently gained as a serious, comprehensive medical science.
To end my review, I'm going to recommend two books: The Practical Application of Meridian Style Acupuncture and Applied Channel Theory in Chinese Medicine Wang Ju-Yi's Lectures on Channel Therapeutics. These are two wonderfull books that go deeper in the roots of TCM with concise and usefull information for the modern practitioner.
